HIC Sponsor Local Hero Awards
Release Date: 20 May 2008
HIC, (Harrogate International Centre), once again sponsored
the Make A Community Difference category in the annual radio Stray
FM Local Heroes awards. Category winner Maureen Clark received her
award from Alison Griffin, Head of Marketing at HIC, during a
ceremony held at the Cedar Court Hotel on Friday 16 May 2008.
Maureen was chosen as this year's category winner for her
commitment and tenacity over the years caring for elderly
neighbours, giving free swimming lessons to adults and children and
for her work with the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Maureen is currently training her 11th puppy in basic skills before
it goes out as a qualified guide dog to help improve the life of
someone with visual impairment.
Alison Griffin commented, "It is always a very tough decision
choosing a winner for this category. All the entrants are nominated
by others, and all are winners. It's tremendous to see how much
voluntary work is going on in the community and the awards help the
wider public recognise these community ambassadors and local
heroes".
"HIC is committed to working with the local community, not
only through these awards and the Ackrill newspaper business
awards, but in many other ways too. HIC recently planted 10,000
saplings near the pinewoods for future generations to enjoy. We
also look forward to welcoming the community to one of the Royal
Hall open days in June. It is through the local people and their
support of the Royal Hall that so much was achieved in the
restoration of this great landmark venue. "
