Student Showround at HIC
Release Date: 17th April
Harrogate International Centre recently hosted a visit from Leeds
Metropolitan University when 15 students studying a degree course
in "Conference & Exhibition Management within the UK
Centre for Events Management" were shown around the Royal
Hall, the exhibition halls and the auditorium.
Event Manager, Roger Triggs, led the tour and
spoke to the students about his role and responsibilities and gave
the students, and two accompanying lecturers, an insight into the
many and varied stage and exhibition hall configurations and
set-ups requested by tour managers and event organisers. The
students had many questions about the conference and exhibition
industry, and venue hire business practices, as part of their study
module Developing and Optimising the Event Space.
Viv Graham, Marketing Executive at HIC, welcomed the students
explaining the background to the conference and exhibition industry
at the venue. This included a promotional DVD used at trade shows.
Viv will also represent HIC as an assessor when the students
present a business pitch as part of the study module.
Lecturers Sharon McElhinney and Barry Blake, who accompanied
the students, said, "HIC put a lot of work into showing our
students real business practices and we are working with Viv Graham
to develop this module to more directly reflect this. A hands-on
tour is invaluable to our students in understanding this element of
the industry".
