Colin Weston

Head of Event Services

Born and raised in Yorkshire, Colin studied for a joint degree in Recreation Management and English Literature, at The College of Ripon and York St. John, York Campus.

Colin's early career aspirations were to pursue a path either in acting or in leisure facility management. During his first year at college, Colin quickly dispensed with the thought of ever "treading the boards", after learning of the long periods of unemployment experienced by many in the acting fraternity.
The 80's BBC comedy drama series Brittas Empire also dented any aspirations to work in a leisure centre!

After completing his degree in 1984 Colin commenced working life when he secured a position with Harrogate Borough Council's Resort Services Department (now known as HIC), working in the licensed bars. Promotion ensued, as Colin became Bars Manager and then Senior Event Manager in quick succession. As Senior Event Manager he became responsible for the planning and delivery of events, such as the World Small Animal Veterinary Association, The CBI Conference, The World 3rd Congress on East European Studies, RCN and the first Sino-British Trade event!

In 1998 Colin was again promoted to Head of Operations (title changed to Head of Event Services in 2002). As Head of Service his remit has included health and safety, licensing of events, security, the daily operation of the site, cleansing and waste management. Recently Colin developed the HIC Business Continuity Plan and is now developing the sustainability policy for the organisation.

Outside of work Colin's interests are mainly sports and family related. He is still a loyal Leeds United supporter and plays golf (badly!) and follows the sport of kings! Reading and relaxing with his partner, Alison occupies the remainder of any spare time he has.
