Students Showround
Student's Showround
Release Date:
22nd January 2007
A student group from Harrogate Grammar School were invited to tour
HIC's auditorium after student Charlotte Houlgate wrote an article
in 'Student's Viewpoint' for the local paper.
Sixth Former Charlotte, felt the growing demand for live music in
the town was not being addressed, particularly for youngsters under
18 years of age, who are unable to gain entry to licensed premises
where up and coming bands tend to play.
The students felt Harrogate International Centre should do
more by booking the type of bands they and their peers wanted to
see.
Viv Graham, HIC's Advertising Executive, took the group of 11
students round the auditorium and they were also introduced to
Vanessa Veysey, Entertainments Executive. Vanessa explained to the
students the difficulties in securing today's big bands that
normally play to large capacity audiences, and therefore do not
include venues under a certain size. HIC's auditorium has a
capacity of 2,000 seats and must therefore book entertainers that
appeal to this audience size.
As well as the auditorium the students saw the star dressing rooms,
the back stage area, lighting and the Box Office. They were
delighted with the tour, and the informative presentation and left
with a better understanding of the many variables HIC have to
consider when putting together the entertainments programme.
Most of the students had previously attended the auditorium,
notably for the McFly concert. Viv Graham has asked the group to
send in the names of bands they would like to see appearing here at
the Centre, and Vanessa Veysey will do her utmost to secure a
booking.
