2008 Visitor Guide Launched at Black Sheep Brewery

To promote holiday tourism across North Yorkshire and the surrounding area, the new tourism guide Explore & Indulge - Yorkshire Dales & Harrogate 2008", was launched last week at Black Sheep Brewery in Masham.

Over 70 stakeholders and advertisers attended the event where Chairman of the Area Tourism Partnership (ATP), Steve Macare, spoke of the partnership's drive to attract more tourism into the area. Steve said, "The Partnership is charged with increasing tourism by 5% per annum. Holiday tourism saw 13.84m visits to the area in 2006, generating a spend of over £810m yet the bulk of visits were day visits. It is part of our remit to convert day visits to longer stays".

National consumer research was undertaken by the Partnership to determine the style and format of the new brochure, which replaces two previous publications, the Yorkshire Dales Holiday Guide and the Harrogate Visitor Guide. Bringing these together as one publication provides clarity for visitors and offers advertisers a greater reach through a wider distribution network and an overall increased print run.

80,000 brochures have been distributed across the partner organisations. All 800 national Tourist Information Centres will receive them and they will be issued in response to Yorkshire Tourist Boardâ€"s promotional campaign "Make Yorkshire Yours". Individual partners of the ATP will also promote the brochure at shows and events they each attend. Harrogate Tourism, for example, already plan to attend several local events next year as well as the Great Yorkshire Show, and also trade shows such as the "Great Days Out Show" to be held in Bolton next February.

Harrogate Tourism undertook production of the brochure. Marketing Executive, Viv Graham said, "The editorial in the brochure is completely new and refreshing with complimenting images. The demand for advertising space exceeded our expectations, we had to increase the brochure from 80 pages to 84 pages to include all the accommodation providers who requested space; advertisers also receive a website listing".

Steve Macare thanked Black Sheep Brewery for their complimentary hospitality that included refreshments and informative tours of the brewery.

The Area Tourism Partnership is made up of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Craven, Richmondshire, Hambleton, Eden and South Lakeland District Councils and Harrogate Borough Council, and was formed in 2006. For a copy of the Guide contact your local Tourist Information Centre.
