Alison Griffin
Head of Marketing
Born and raised in Berkshire, Alison moved north in 1991 to study
for a degree in Business Studies at Northumbria University in
Newcastle.
Finding marketing the most appealing, creative and dynamic
part of the course, Alison chose to pursue this for her career and
after a brief return to the south, moved back to Leeds to commence
her working life as a Marketing & Events Co-ordinator for the
Yorkshire & Humberside Association for Further & Higher
Education, (YHAFHE), based in Dewsbury, West
Yorkshire. Alison used this role to learn and
develop her marketing and work-based skills, and then moved to
Sagars Chartered Accountants in Leeds, where, as a Marketing
Executive, she was pivotal in launching the firm's niche tax brand,
"Law Point".
Her first managerial position took her to the College of Ripon
& York St John, where she headed up the conference marketing of
this educational establishment. In 2001, she
proactively promoted the College to win, "Conference Venue of the
Year" at the Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards.
Following further career development roles at Keighley College
and at the Leeds Business School, Leeds Metropolitan University,
both as Marketing Manager, Alison secured her dream job as Head of
Marketing & Sales for Harrogate International
Centre.
This position combined the two aspects of work she loves and
enjoys the most; marketing and events.
Since commencing the post in June 2006, Alison has increased
sales of HIC entertainments via a proactive and planned marketing
approach, launching a new What's On Guide and regional media
advertising.
She has also developed the brand
profile for HIC to include a reinvigorated website,
www.harrogateinternationalcentre.co.uk,
an impressive venue brochure and an inviting destination
DVD.
Alison heads up the HIC Marketing, Business
Development Teams and the Harrogate and District TIC Teams.
Outside of work, Alison lives in Halifax with her family and
given time likes outdoor exercise and enjoys nothing more than a
long run or walk at the weekend.
