HIC at Entente Floral
Entente Florale Technical Support
27 September 2007
The Technical team at Harrogate International Centre designed
and installed the stunning creative backdrop supporting this year's
Entente Floral Awards Ceremony held at Ripon Cathedral recently,
attended by 250 delegates from twelve European countries.
Planning for this event began a year ago. Their concept, the
Landscape Environment of the Harrogate district, created woodland
setting within the Cathedral using 26' silver birch trees, plus
hundreds of other smaller trees, shrubs and ferns.
The woodland setting was echoed too in the three-screen
opening video showcasing the Harrogate District's range and variety
of landscapes, from Brimham Rocks to Pateley Bridge and the Area of
Natural Outstanding Beauty.
The HIC 12-man team included cameramen, electricians, and
lighting and sound technicians. A 200 kw generator was craned in to
power the event, and a 45-foot articulated lorry was needed to
transport all the theatrical lighting used for the event.
Simon Kent, Head of Technical Services at HIC, was delighted
with the audience's reaction, saying "this was an unusual
challenge, particularly as it was off-site and in such a
prestigious building as Ripon Cathedral. The design concept needed
to compliment the event, and yet be sympathetic to the venue too.
The feedback we received on the night resoundingly suggests that we
achieved this. Our team worked round the clock to make sure the
ceremony ran perfectly. Our thanks go to the Cathedral Flower Guild
for their invaluable creative input and untiring attention to
detail".
The HIC Technical team offer a wealth of in-house production
services, ranging from audio visual, lighting, sound and IT
solutions for HIC clients, and the wide range of events which are
held at the venue.
