Orthodontics Centenary
Bond (007) comes to town to celebrate 100 years of British
Orthodontics
24 September 2007
The British Orthodontic Society return to the region for the
Society's 2007 conference and in doing so will celebrate 100 years
of British orthodontics.
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with making
the best of your teeth, jaws and face, correcting bite to enable
more comfortable eating, and benefiting your smile! Nearly 1m
people in the UK started orthodontic treatment last year.
Treatment usually begins with a referral from a general
dentist to a specialist local practice where the dentist will have
had an additional three years of specialist training to become an
orthodontist.
The BOS are regular visitors to Harrogate, visiting the town
every three years to host their event. Harrogate has long been
regarded as one of the Society's favourite conference
destinations.
This year's conference programme will cover such important topics
as risk management and patient consent to the use of micro
implants.
The prestigious Northcroft Lecture will be presented by
Professor Murray Meikle, who will look at the advances made in the
last 100 years and how new technology in this field will develop
over the coming years.
The centenary celebration party will be appropriately based on
the Bond (007) theme. More than 800 Orthodontists will descend upon
Harrogate during the conference, which is scheduled for 23 - 26
September. A trade exhibition will also run concurrent to the
conference programme where 45 exhibitors will showcase their latest
innovations and product or service range.
