Director

Born and raised in Essex, Stuart moved to Leeds to study at the city's School of Town Planning. After qualifying he worked in London and the West Midlands before a career in planning (development control and forward planning) brought him to Harrogate. 
 
Stuart was appointed as Harrogate's first Economic Development Officer in the challenging economic climate of the 1980's with responsibilities for driving the growth of the area as a business location. Stuart developed a comprehensive small business support network and a range of urban and rural workshops for new and small business. Other key achievements included attracting a range of new employers to the area, including Samsung, Link Interchange and the NatWest Bank.
 
After succeeding in qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor at Reading College of Estate Management Stuart took on the post of Deputy Director at Harrogate International Centre in 1996. Appointed as Director in 2005 Stuart is responsible for HIC's business strategy putting his extensive development experience to effective use in enhancing and improving the venue.  His major achievements include managing two additions to the facilities at HIC - exhibition Hall M and the Queen's Suite breakout rooms and overseeing the £8m restoration of the Grade II listed Royal Hall which reopens in April 2008.
 
Stuart has been instrumental in the latest development plan for the venue 'HIC's vision for the future'; a major £45m, six year plan for the redevelopment of the site and enhancement to its facilities www.hicvision.co.uk
 
Stuart's involvement and enthusiasm for working in the Events Industry extends outside HIC. He's a Board Member on the AEV (Association of Event Venues) and is Chair of the UK Venues Benchmarking Group.
 
Married with two grown up children, Stuart enjoys travelling, is a keen cyclist and sports fan.
