Leroy Anderson is perhaps the world's foremost composer of
'Popular Light Music'. In his association with the Boston Pops
Orchestra, he composed a host of memorable tunes, all of which were
premiered by the Orchestra.
Born on June 29th 1908, Leroy Anderson pioneered a style of
music which was to have great influence on modern composers such as
John Williams, who also became conductor of the Boston Pops.
The concert program features over 20 of his best known tunes
including 'Belle of the Ball' 'Forgotten Dreams'
'Sandpaper Ballet' 'The Waltzing Cat' 'Serenata'
'Sleigh Ride', and many more, but not forgetting his humorous 'The
Typewriter'.
The National Concert Orchestra of Great Britain, features the
'cream' of British musicians ex members of the Halle Orchestra and
the BBC Philharmonic. With the recent surge of interest in 'Popular
Light Music' (as was seen during the BBC Proms 2007) it is the
clear remit of the orchestra to present varied concerts of light
popular music, including its critically acclaimed 'A Festival for
Christmas'.
Greg Francis himself, was Musical Orchestrator and Guest
Conductor for the various BBC Radio Orchestras during the 1980's,
the 'Miss World' contests, and the German N.D.R. Orchestra, as both
Musical Arranger and Conductor. He has also orchestrated scores for
many Hollywood films, and recently, for the R.L.P.O.
