Young Musicians: Finzi Quartet

Formed at the Royal Northern College of Music, the Finzi Quartetare fast making a name for themselves, with multiple awards, prizes and scholarships. They were recently selected for the Tillett Trust's Young Artist's Platform, and make their debut recital at the Wigmore Hall in 2009. Champions of British composers, the quartet take their name from Gerald Finzi, the English composer who grew up in Harrogate.

Bulgarian singing is powerful and expressive, with a unique style based on fiery rhythms, unusual harmonies and a vocal technique that gives power to the voice and voice to the heart.

Since 1985, JTQ has been at the forefront of acid jazz, and possibly
the only group to be lead from the Hammond Organ!  Their live shows
are legendary, featuring a mixture of original compositions and funky
covers of jazz classics.

Sophie Cashell came to national attention after winning the BBC Classical Star Television program in 2007.  When Sophiestrode to the piano for her climactic performance of Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2, she projected the air of an established superstar.

After a standing ovation at the Festival in 2007, Jacqui Dankworth returns to wow the Harrogate audience once again. With an impressive jazz pedigree (she's the daughter of John Dankworth and Cleo Laine) and a wonderful, intimate singing style, it's no wonder Jacqui Dankworth continues to attract ever larger and more enthusiastic audiences.

The world famous brass band make a welcome return to Harrogate's
Royal Hall, where the gleaming brass is refl ected in the glittering
ceiling.  Under the direction of the charismatic Nicholas Childs,
every concert is a special occasion, with a blend of traditional
tunes and some more unusual sound worlds.

After stunning Festival audiences in 2007, Julie Fowlis returns
to Harrogate with more haunting Gaelic melodies. The Scottish
songstress (winner of the BBC Radio 2 Folksinger of the Year 2008)
performs traditional and new folk songs in her native Gaelic tongue,
with superb accompaniment from fiddle, guitar and bozouki.
